Errant UMP! Cost's Triton Victory

The San Clemente Tritons played to an 11 inning 0-0 tie yesterday against the Dana Hills Dolphins, at Dana Hills High School.
In the second inning of the game with one out Steve Brandenburg walked. Two batters, and another out later, Josh Gobble hit one deep to right field, (on a hit and run play) for what looked like the first run of the game, and an RBI for Gobble. it was apparent that Steve Brandenburg beat the ball and the tag by several feet, having actually slid all the way over the plate and through the batters box before a tag was applied. The umpire saw it differently, he seemed to hesitate for a moment then when the dust settled, the umpire banged Brandenburg out.
This call would later be the difference in a must win game for the Triton's.
With Dana Hills taunting fans, Chad Hadzinsky pitched beautifully for seven shut out innings. Hadzinsky and catcher Zach Mason, mixed pitches up to keep the Dolphins guessing. Hadzinsky struck out 12 batters, and allowed only 2 hits and a Hit batter.
Trey Senate came into the game in the bottom of the eighth inning. Senate held the Dolphins scoreless the rest of the way. Recording 3K's, 1H, 1BB.
Some tense moments accrued in the bottom of the eleventh inning. With two outs a very respectable dolphin hitter (Andy) came to the plate. With the Dana Hills fans chanting for a walk off, and continuing to be the 10th player on the field, Senate struck him out in four pitches to end the game.
Combined, Hadzinsky and senate pitched 11 innings, 15-Ks, 3H, 1-BB and 1HBP.
Zach Mason cought all eleven innings, and called the pitches for  the Tritons.
On offence for the Tritons, San Clemente appeared to score a run in the top of the eighth inning, but an illegal substitution was made, giving the Tritons an out and moving the runner back to second base.
San Clemente's last chance to score came in the top of the eleventh inning with one out and bases loaded, but the threat was ended when back to back Triton runners were thrown out at the plate.
Leading the Tritons on offence was Josh Gobble. Gobble went 2 for 4.

Steal Play Swings Tritons Way

The San Clemente Triton JV Baseball Team added another win to the season after defeating Aliso Niguel High School 4-2, at the Wolverines field last Friday.
Starting pitcher Casey Graves pitched well, but came out of the game unexpectedly with one out in the fourth inning . Trey Senate came in to pitch the rest of the game, and held the Wolverines for a Triton victory.
Graves and Senate combined for 6-H, 0-BB, 2-Ks, 2 double play balls.
The Triton offence was slow, but able to get enough to generate runs when needed.
Leading San Clemente at the plate, was Zach Mason. Mason went two for three and a run scored.
With two outs and the score tied at two in the sixth, the Triton's Johnny Martinez singled through the four/three hole, moving Josh Gobble to third. Gobble previously reached first off an Aliso error. With a man on first and third, the count one and one to Eamon Sullivan, San Clemente pulled off the delayed double steal perfectly for the go ahead run.
The first run for San Clemente came in the third. With two outs Mason singled up the middle, then went to second on a passed ball. In an attempt to throw Mason out stealing third, Aliso  threw the ball away into left field and Mason scored.
In the sixth inning two more Triton runs came across. The first came with one out when Shane Vasic reached on error, stole second, and scored from second on another Aliso error . The third run in the inning came when Eamon Sullivan singled and tried to stretch it to a double, before the tag out at second, Martinez wheeled around the bases and scored.
League continues for the Tritons this Tuesday.  The Tritons play away, at Dana hills High School. Game time 3:15.

Tritons Feast On Wolverine;
Tritons Win 9-4

The San clemente bat's came alive Wednesday in a league, home game against Aliso Niguel High School. The Tritons scored three runs in the second, two runs in the fourth and four runs in the sixth to secure a 9-4 Triton victory
Leading the offence was number nine hitter, Josh Gobble. Gobble went two for three. A single for an RBI, and a double for 2 RBI's that set the pace. Gobble also reached on an error and latter scored.
Also, having a good day at the plate, Taylor Cook went 2 for 4, with a base on balls, an RBI, and a run scored.
Every Triton hitter in the starting line-up got a hit, or an RBI.
Starting on the hill for the Triton's, was Chad Hadzinsky. Hadzinsky kept the Wolverines at bay until the fourth inning when Aliso was able to string some runs together.    With bases loaded in the fifth, Senate took the mound in relief, and was able to keep the Wolverines from tying the game.
With the score 5-4 in the bottom of the sixth, the San Clemente Triton's unloaded the bats, scoring four runs off an Aliso Relief pitcher. In the seventh inning, Senate gave up a lead off single, then struck out the next batter and pitched a nice ground-ball double play, that was turned beautifully by Taylor cook at short, Aaron Payne at second and Ryan Masters at first.
Defensively, the Triton's played stellar. In the top of the first inning, third baseman Shane Vasic, made a great diving stop off a hard hit baseline ball, then threw a dart across the diamond for the first out of the game. At first base, Ryan Masters was a wall, and in the outfield, Zach Mason kept a couple of singles from becoming doubles.
San Clemente plays Aliso Niguel for the third and last time of the season on Friday @ Aliso. Game time 3:15.

Triton's Slip Again

Since the Triton's spring break ended, the ball has been bouncing in the wrong direction, as the Tritons JV baseball team lost for the second time this year to the Capistrano Valley High School Cougars. Adding another loss to the post, spring break loss list.
San Clemente buried it self in the first two innings of the game, giving up five runs on four hits and two walks. In the third inning, the Triton defence woke up from a two inning slumber, and made some plays behind relief pitcher, Casey Graves. Graves was able to hold the Cougars to one unearned run for the remaining four innings. But the Triton offence came up short, losing to the Cougars 6-3.
San Clemente scored a run in the third inning after San Clemente third basemen Shane Vasic fought off two pitches and a full count, then blooped a single into shallow center field. The Capo pitcher trying to catch Vasic off first, threw the ball away and Vasic ran through second to third. Brandenburg reached on and error and stole second base. With one out and a man on second and third, Aaron Payne hit a fly ball out to center field, that was enough to score Vasic off the tag up and an RBI.
The Triton's scored again when Capo gave up three consecutive walks and two passed balls to start the sixth inning. Mitch Morgan and Ryan Masters drew the first two walks and advanced bases on a passed ball. With a man on second and third, and Vasic up to bat, Morgan was able to score off a good jump on a blocked ball in the dirt that bounced high in the air, and Masters moved to third. Vasic drew the third walk, Brandenburg hit a deep fly ball to center field, scoring Masters easily for the last Triton run of the game.
San Clemente Continues league play on Wendesday against Aliso Niguel @ San Clemente high School. Game time 3:15.

S.C. Triton Baseball "08" Top Alumni

Past and present Triton Varsity Baseball players, and coaches, suited up for battle in an exciting alumni game, and fund-raiser held at San Clemente High School on Saturday afternoon.
The 2008 varsity squad defeated the pesky old guys for bragging rights, and a  a big "V" for victory.
Head coach Dave Gellatly, and 2007 graduate Jeff Grajalva tried to lead the alumni team to victory by intimidation and brute force. But errors from the field, and timely hitting by the youngsters kept the alumni from smelling the roses.
